Today you are one year old! A whole year of your life completed. I’ve been having a lot of mixed feelings as your birthday approached. I, of course, am excited to celebrate this milestone with you but also a bit sad that you seem to be growing up at a rate that is faster than your sister.
You have surprised me in so many ways right from the beginning when I found out I was pregnant with you, when you were born weighing ten pounds, how well and quickly you bonded with your big sister, and how you seem to have been a part of our family forever. You are a complicated person; you enjoy your alone time but when you need some company you make sure you get it. You have become quite attached to your two blue blankets and love to hold them and snuggle with them. You have a great sense of humor and a desire to learn about everything around you. For all your curiosity you are content with crawling, cruising the furniture, and walking while holding someone’s hand instead of walking independently…see what I mean when I say “complicated”?
For someone so young you’ve had many experiences. You have vacationed, rode a train, visited zoos, aquariums, and museums, seen the ocean, met Santa, played on the playground, and taken a ride in an ambulance to the emergency room. Promise me we’ll never have to relive that last one ever again. Since the weather has warmed up we have spent countless hours outside and you’re exploring the grass, trees, flowers, big kids, and neighborhood dogs. You have a big soft spot for animals, especially Ares our cat. You love him so much you can actually say his name.
You have been a joy in our lives since the moment we laid eyes on you. I am proud and grateful to be your mother. I cannot imagine what the future holds for you but I can’t wait to find out.
Happy birthday, Jack!
