OPSEC is Real!

A friend of mine is eagerly awaiting the return of her husband from deployment. He was due to come in tomorrow but not anymore. WGAL a NBC affiliate in Lancaster County, PA listed everything you’re not suppose to list when talking about a home coming. We’re talking troop numbers, time of arrival, destination. The National Guard got wind of the report and has delayed the unit’s home coming. I’d be livid if that was Tim’s unit…hell I’m a pretty peeved now! I even wrote a strongly worded letter to the Director of Operations.
So the next time you go to post something on Facebook or your blog about your soldier’s whereabouts and movements, reconsider the OPSEC rules and avoid any unnecessary delays, hang ups or risks to your soldier and his/her unit. It’s not jut a vacant threat, the military really will change plans and possibly delay your home coming celebration!
